I love me a good “Afternoon Tea”

what is High Tea/Afternoon Tea?

It’s a meal eaten in the late afternoon or early evening, typically consisting of a cooked dish, bread, butter, and tea.

May also include vegetables, cheese, pies, muffins and occasionally meat.

Soon it became a popular social event a  bridge between meals because many wouldn’t eat their evening meal until maybe 8 pm. As such, it was a ‘mini meal’ in itself.

bring out the finest chinaware

fancy pots and shortbread cookies 

can someone pass the strawberry jam

don’t forget the clotted cream 

finger sandwiches and cake

arranged around an exquisite table 

sitting by the garden lake
